Insimbi ZeZhwane, Sulumani Chimbetu Headline Zimbabwe 46th Independence Celebrations At Luso Africa

This year April 2026 Zimbabwe Independence celebrations promise to be bigger and better after confirmation this week that the gala event is going to be held at the Luso Africa Portuguese Club in Primrose – for the second year running.

Consul General Eria Phiri told the Sunday Express that it’s all systems go to celebrate Zimbabwe’s 46th Independence celebrations, and a full programme of artists and musicians, live music and complete with jumping castle, children’s entertainment and raffle draws are part of the planned festivities.

“It is an important event on the calender for all Zimbabweans and it is a time to reflect on the values of our liberation struggle, and our collective identity,” said CG Phiri.

He said that all Zimbabweans and all other nations, are invited to come and participate, to share the special day with their families, and the event is coming to Luso Africa – promising an action-packed afternoon of song and dance.

“The event is free for all members of the communities, there will be full bar and catering, and the Consulate in Johannesburg is 100% confident that we have arranged a great day out, so come and enjoy the Zimbabwe Independence celebration in style this weekend,” said CG Phiri.

Insimbi ZeZhwane, the Zimbabwean rhumba music band – known for hits like Imbulumakhasane and “GPS”, is expected to bring its high-octane-energy performances from their new album Infundamakwela.

Infact Insimbi ZeZhwane made history by becoming the first Zimbabwean Rhumba band to hit one million YouTube views for the 2022 hit Imbulumakhasane, and at the same time they have released crack albums like Impande yeMinyela, Imbemba, Dikidiki, Inhlanzi Encane, and Iseqamgwaqo.

Joining them on stage will be Zimbabwean Dendera hitman Sulumani Chimbetu who has made a name for himself as a super vocalist, guitarist, and composer, and above all the frontman for the Orchestra Dendera Kings.

Fans going to celebrate Zimbabwe’s Independence at Luso this week can expect hits like Sean Timba, and also cuts from Ndomusiya Nani, Reverse Deal, and Syllabus.

Other acts expected on stage include DJ Irie Dread, Abra Simzz, and Queenti.
