Celebrities, dignitaries, officials and guests had a ball at the 2026 Zimbabwe Independence celebrations at Luso Africa Portuguese Club in Primrose on Saturday – for the second year running – and this year the event lived up to its billing as a must-attend family fun day.

New Zimbabwe Ambassador to South Africa Lovemore Mazemo attended his first Independence celebrations since his appointment earlier this year, and he took the time to thank all the Zimbabweans in the diaspora for continuing to support their families in Zimbabwe – and sending in billions of money in remittances into Zimbabwe.

Consul General Eria Phiri told the guests that this year’s celebrations in Primrose was the biggest yet to be held outside of Zimbabwe – and the full programme of artists and musicians, live music, jumping castle, children’s entertainment and raffle draws had attracted a full house a Luso – and they – as the organisers – were happy with the turnout, and the enthusiasm of the attendees.

“It is an important event on the calender for all Zimbabweans and it is a time to reflect on the values of our liberation struggle, and our collective identity,” said CG Phiri.

He thanked everyone – including the delegates from other countries and all other nations who had come in to share the special day with their families, and the event at Luso Africa – had lived up to its billing as an afternoon of song and dance.

Insimbi ZeZhwane, the crack Zimbabwean rhumba music band – known for hits like Imbulumakhasane and “GPS”, belted out its high-octane-energy performances and played tunes from their new album Infundamakwela – much to the excitement of the crowd.

Joining them on stage was Zimbabwean Dendera hitman Sulumani Chimbetu who has made a name for himself as a super vocalist, guitarist, and composer, and above all the frontman for the Orchestra Dendera Kings.

The rest of the Saturday entertainment line up was rounded off by DJ Irie Dread, Abra Simzz, and Queenti – before the crowd was treated to a full banquet of eats, drinks and jit music.
