This week celebrity news on the DSE Entertainment – is that Baba Harare – born Braveman Chizvino – is set to make a smashing appearance at the Hard Rock Cafe in Sandton – and fans are in for captivating performances by the contemporary Zimbabwean dancemaster.

He gained fame as the lead guitarist for Jah Prayzah and later launched a successful solo career, leading the City Vibration band and releasing his debut album “Chikwama Changu” in 2017.

His hit song “The Reason Why” has made him a prominent figure in the Zimbabwean music scene.

Baba Harare has received several awards, including recognition at the ZIMA Awards and the National Arts Merit Awards (NAMA).

Recently, he has made headlines for his return to the jiti genre – having earlier tried his hand at gospel music – and reflecting on his personal journey and the impact of his music on fans.

Chizvino started playing music at a young age with a passion for the guitar and formed The City Vibration.

Today he is known for a range of hit numbers, including Rinenge Riri Gango, Zimbabwean Giant, Rita (Remix), Vaccine, Generator, Chikwama Changu, Minamato Yarasta (2017) and many others on the turntable.

His nominations and awards cabinet rivals any superstar today, including recognition at various awards, including ZIMA Awards and the National Arts Merit Awards (NAMA), showcasing his impact on the Zimbabwean music scene.

At one point Baba Harare withdrew his nomination from the Star FM listeners’ awards, citing personal reasons and a desire to make way for other deserving artists.

Last year Baba Harare announced his return to jiti music, a year after he announced that he quit the genre to pursue gospel.

At the time Nehanda Radio reported that Baba Harare shocked the world of local showbiz when he announced that, as he had become a born-again Christian.

The musician even derided jiti, describing the genre as “nonsense.”

He has collaborated with many artists including Gemma Griffiths.

Ndadzoka kuzoti vaya vanga vasati vatanga kunwa mapiritsi vachitangawo,” he wrote in a post that was accompanied by laughing emojis.

Baba Harare’s return to jiti comes after he claimed to have had an epiphany while in Australia, which led him to rethink his life in music.

“Early this year we travelled to Australia with my group where I had a sold-out show. The fans embraced my music, but God spoke to me and convinced me to quit secular music and serve Him.

“I know I will miss travelling and stuff but I do not regret this move. This is the wisest move I have made in my life,” he said.
At the time, the musician conceded that it was hard to convince his fans that he had moved on.

“It will be hard for some of the people who have been loyal to me to embrace my new move. I quit jiti for gospel music which has left many people debating.

Confirming speculation, Baba Harare said his wife had convinced him to make the life-changing decision.

“I have heard people say I recently got married, which is false. I have been married to her for some time, but I did not want her to be in the media.

“Social media went into an overdrive when her images were publicised with many versions coming up,” he said.

Baba Harare is set to perform at the Hard Rock Cafe At Sandton Square for Saturday Night Live on April 25. Stay Connected on the DSE News Network
