The unmistakable aroma of freshly brewed coffee filled the hallways of Randeor School in Winchester Hills as young, passionate learners took center stage at the 3rd Annual Schools Barista Competition, proudly hosted by Thando Coffee Company.
The event saw 21 learners from five schools—Randeor School, Zimeleni, Die Hamlet, Belvedere, and Isipho Sethu—step up to the espresso machine and showcase their growing barista skills.
More than just a competition, the event offered a transformative platform for youth to demonstrate workplace readiness, professionalism, and creativity in coffee preparation.
“Our goal has always been to develop barista talent at grassroots level,” said Khulekani Mpala, Head of Training at Thando Coffee Company.
“This year, the standard was phenomenal. These kids were exceptionally well-prepared. I’ve already identified a few who show great promise, and we will be working closely with them to prepare for the SCASA regional competitions in the near future.”
