The Central District of the South Africa Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church (UMC), based in Johannesburg, Gauteng Province, this week embarked on a humanitarian outreach to support Zimbabwean nationals currently staying at the old Zimbabwe Consulate, Bedfordview, Johannesburg.
The initiative is being led by the Central District United Methodist Women (UMW).
The Zimbabwean nationals were recently relocated from the new Zimbabwean Consulate offices, where they had been waiting for buses to repatriate them to Zimbabwe following displacement of the 30 June deadline for all undocumented foreign nationals to leave South Africa by March and March Movement group.
During this period, many endured harsh conditions, sleeping outdoors in the cold and rain while awaiting their return home.
In response to this humanitarian need, various circuits within the Central District UMC Women have united to demonstrate Christ’s love by providing hot meals, drinking water, clothing, sanitary items, and other essential supplies on a daily basis.
Through these acts of compassion, the Church continues to bear witness to God’s love, offering hope, dignity, and care to those in need.
“We warmly invite individuals, churches, organizations, and members of the community to partner with us by donating food, clothing, blankets, toiletries, sanitary products, bottled water, or any other essential items,” the church said, adding “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” Galatians 6:2
